Earlier this morning jockey Darren Williams learned that the BHA had decided refuse him a licence to ride in the UK.
The 30 year old was informed of the decision by telephone and will receive written confirmation of the decision within the next seven days and will have the opportunity to appeal. Williams served a three month suspension for passing information for reward and associating with disgraced gambler Miles Rodgers. We wait to see whether an appeal is lodged or Williams decides to pursue a career abroad.
Meanwhile, Wetherby race officials have continued to water the course in preparation for the £100,000 Charlie Hall Chase taking place on Saturday. The race is a firm favourite amongst the racing tips community and will attract its fait share of horse racing tips this weekend. With 11 entries confirmed so far, the clerk of the course is slightly concerned with current condition good to firm, and good in places.
Also taking place at Wetherby on Saturday is the Grade Two John Smith's Hurdle. Of all the current entrants, the one attracting most attention is the Phillip Hobbs-trained Fair Along. Although disappointing in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket recently, the seven-year-old won well twice last season and should be watched at a decent price this weekend.
Horse racing meeting are being held today at Lingfield, Newcastle, Stratford and Wolverhampton.
