Q: What is the difference between a bookmaker and a betting exchange?

Traditional bookmakers offer fixed odds on events to the public who then decide to place a bet at that price or not. Betting exchanges provide a place to match people of differing views on the same event.

So for example, the betting exchange will match people who think a horse will win a race with people who think it won't win at a price they both agree upon.

The biggest impact that the betting exchanges have made is to allow customers to "lay" horses ie. back horses to lose.

Q: Where should I go to find out if my bet has won?

There are a number of excellent places to find out the latest horse racing and sports results. For horse racing we recommend that you visit GG.com and the BBC Sports website provides excellent coverage of a wide range of sports.

Q. Does The Betting Tipster place money on my behalf?

No. Whilst our goal is to provide you with the very best betting advice, you will need to place your bets for yourself. This means that you are in total control of your finances and also can select the bookmaker that you wish to use.

We recommend that you open a number of accounts to give you access to the best prices on offer. (See Bookmaker Offers).
